Instructions

Every year, millions of healthy, adoptable dogs and cats are put to death in shelters because nobody wants them. The problem is that too many are born and too few homes are available. And most domestic pet breedings are accidental.

Planned Pethood, a joint project of FlagPAL and the Coconino Humane Association, and sponsored by the Flagstaff Community Foundation and the Robert T. Wilson Foundation, is a volunteer organization which seeks to educate the public about spay/neuter issues and assist people with the financial burden of spaying or neutering their pets.

Responding to calls on our message line, ten volunteers mail out information packets (see link above), call clients, and issue certificates worth 25% of the cost of surgery and related medical costs, and in general try to teach pet owners about the social and health benefits of spaying and neutering, and to inspire compassion for unwanted pets.

Meet the volunteers

There are ten dedicated people working in the program: Telephone operators Chris Fonoti, Debby Grey, Jeanette Weatherby and Kimberly Woolbright; Interviewers Kay Bowman, Anah Kirshbaum and Linda Turco; Amy Sipes, the scheduler, is the control center who daily coordinates the efforts of the operators and interviewers (a huge job!!); Linda Turco photocopies our thousands of pages of materials; Carole Kier is the Publications Librarian who acquires, folds, prepares and delivers the packets, envelopes, stamps, certificates and forms to the operators and interviewers; Tom Kirshbaum is the program coordinator and bookkeeper. The Steering Committee comprises Debby Gray, Anah & Tom Kirshbaum and Amy Sipes.
